How Mom Skills Help Your Job Search
How Mom Skills Help Your Job SearchHow Mom Skills Help Your Job SearchWe recently spoke with Sherlyn Pang Luedtke, founder of Present Parent Training, author of The Mommy Advantage, and a self-empowerment coach, speaker, and mom with a background in recruiting and human resources. She offered five ways moms can look at their skills in a whole new light and use them as a benefit in their job search. Here are Sherlyns tips for using mom skills as an advantage in your job search1. Own your worth. The skills moms utilize in raising kids and managing the home are extremely valuable. Studies estimate the cost of those services to be well over $100,000. Look at what it would take to outsource what you do as a mom and you will be amazed.2. Recognize your leadership role.As a leader in your home and community, you have had to master communication and influence skills, planning, managing competing priorities, time management, performance management, disciplinary action, and organizational develo pment.3. Demonstrate that you are a fit.Identify jobs you want and highlight the keywords. Make sure those keywords are on your resume so you show up in searches. Have three or four success stories ready to share in the vernacular of the corporate world. For example, PTA or Mommy Group = organization, daily routines = systems, managing money = fiscal responsibility, etc.4. Claim your advantage.Being a mom has given you a 24/7 crash course in one of the most important leadership responsibilities on the planet. Do not underestimate how much youve grown and developed in character, skills, and resourcefulness. You have given birth, pulled all-nighters, shed tears, allocated resources, managed budgets, handled crises, and built community.5. Believe in yourself. If you are a mom, you can do anything. Period. Are you a mom looking for a job with flexibility? Take a look at thesegreat work-at-home jobs for stay-at-home moms.
